Introduction

The name Houtveen most likely refers to a farm with the same name near Hooglanderveen. The founder of the family, Bart Evertse, could have worked there as a labourer. Evidence to prove this has not been found, yet, so we have to stick to the theory. But one thing is evident: everybody with the name Houtveen is a descendant of Bart Evertse!

Though Bart is the first person to use the name Houtveen, I was not able for many years to find his baptism. Until David van Zijl contacted me. He was investigating a man who could possibly be the brother of Bart. After some more investigation we both draw the conclusion that he is right! We have been able to add 2 more generations to Bart, though Bart remains the first person with the name Houtveen. I would like to thank David for sharing his findings with me!
